Custom Flat Cut Metal Letters

Flat-cut metal letters and plaques are precision-cut from solid metal sheet, creating crisp outlines, clean edges, and a refined low-profile appearance. They are ideal for reception walls, building identification, directional signage, office doors, commemorative plaques, retail branding, and locations where dimensional visibility is required without the greater depth of fabricated letters.

Each project can be customized in material, sheet thickness, size, edge treatment, surface finish, color, graphics, and mounting method. Available options include aluminum, stainless steel, brass, and bronze with brushed, polished, painted, powder-coated, or plated finishes. Letters and plaques can be installed flush to the surface or raised with studs and spacers, while engraved, printed, or project-specific graphic details can be incorporated when required by the approved design.

Flat-Cut Metal Letter Materials and Finishing Options

  • Flat-cut metal letters and plaques are produced through laser cutting, engraving, polishing, sandblasting, digital printing, and other finishing processes. Each piece is cut directly from metal sheet according to the approved artwork, dimensions, and thickness.
  • Available materials include aluminum, stainless steel, copper, and galvanized steel. Flat-cut construction creates a clean, precise profile suitable for letters, logos, nameplates, directional signs, and decorative plaques.
  • Surface options include brushed, polished, sandblasted, powder-coated, painted, electroplated, digitally printed, engraved, and bas-relief finishes. Custom painted colors can be matched to a specified Pantone reference with a matte, semi-gloss, or gloss appearance.
  • Electroplating can provide decorative metallic colors and surface effects, while digital printing and engraving are suitable for detailed graphics, text, patterns, and branding elements.
  • Flat-cut metal signs can be supplied with studs, 3M mounting tape, brackets, or other customized mounting structures. The sign and mounting accessories can be prepared according to the customer’s preferred installation method, sign dimensions, wall material, and application environment.

Order Support

The packaging method is selected according to the product material, size, weight, construction, surface finish, quantity, and shipping method.

Available packaging includes:

  • Protective film and EPE foam
  • Reinforced export cartons
  • Wooden cases or crates
  • Separate packaging for mounting hardware and accessories

Letter faces, finished surfaces, corners, and edges are individually protected to reduce movement, scratches, deformation, and impact during international transportation.

Tonight Sign provides a three-year warranty for all signage products supplied to customers worldwide.

During the warranty period, if a product or component fails because of a confirmed manufacturing or material defect rather than incorrect installation, misuse, accidental damage, or unauthorized modification, we will reproduce the affected product or part and ship the replacement to the customer at no charge.

Photos and videos may be required to confirm the issue and prepare the correct replacement. For illuminated products, basic electrical test information may also be requested when necessary.

Regular care helps maintain the surface finish, clean edges, mounting stability, and service life of your flat-cut metal letters and logos.

  • Remove dust using a soft, dry microfiber cloth.
  • Use clean water with mild soap when deeper cleaning is required.
  • Wipe brushed finishes gently in the direction of the grain.
  • Avoid abrasive tools, wire brushes, strong solvents, acidic or alkaline cleaners, and high-pressure water.
  • Do not polish painted, powder-coated, electroplated, printed, sandblasted, or specially textured surfaces.
  • Inspect the faces, cut edges, corners, mounting studs, adhesive, brackets, spacers, and other hardware.
  • Remove salt, dirt, and pollution deposits regularly, especially in outdoor or coastal environments.
  • Copper may develop a natural patina over time unless it has a protective finish.
  • Contact a qualified installer if you notice loose letters, damaged finishes, sharp edges, adhesive failure, or corrosion.

Maintenance frequency depends on the material, surface finish, mounting method, installation environment, and exposure to weather, moisture, salt, chemicals, or pollution.

Flat-Cut Metal Letters & Plaques FAQ

Flat-cut letters are cut from sheet metal and retain the selected sheet thickness, creating a clean, low-profile appearance. Fabricated letters have separate faces and returns that create greater depth, making them more suitable when a pronounced dimensional profile is required.

Aluminum is lightweight and works well with painted or powder-coated finishes, while stainless steel is suitable for brushed, polished, painted, or plated architectural lettering. Copper provides a distinctive natural appearance, and galvanized steel can be considered for selected coated applications based on the environment and required finish.

Thickness is selected according to letter height, stroke width, material rigidity, mounting method, desired edge appearance, and risk of bending. Small interior letters may use thinner material, while larger, freestanding, or stand-off-mounted elements may require increased thickness or additional support.

Fine details are possible when the stroke width, spacing, internal openings, material, thickness, and cutting process are compatible. Very small counters, sharp corners, or narrow connections may need adjustment to prevent distortion, weakness, or loss of detail during finishing and installation.

Edge appearance depends on the metal, thickness, selected cutting process, and required finish. Edges can be deburred and may be brushed, polished, painted, or otherwise treated where appropriate, but the face and edge can reflect light differently and should be considered as separate visible surfaces.

Paint and powder-coat colors can be selected according to an approved color reference, while brushing, polishing, plating, sandblasting, and other treatments create different metallic appearances. Physical samples may be advisable because gloss, grain direction, lighting, and surrounding materials can affect the perceived result.

Yes, designs that exceed available sheet size or practical handling limits can be divided into sections. Join positions, alignment, mounting points, grain direction, and finish consistency should be planned during the drawing stage so the assembled design remains visually coordinated.

Yes. They can be produced for outdoor use when the metal, coating, fasteners, mounting method, and edge treatment are selected for the environment. Coastal or polluted locations may require upgraded materials, isolation between dissimilar metals, improved corrosion protection, and more frequent cleaning.

Stud mounting, stand-off mounting, adhesive fixing, mechanical brackets, or combined methods can be used depending on the letter size, weight, surface, and installation environment. A full-size layout template can position the letters, logos, and mounting holes consistently according to the approved artwork.

Use clean water, mild soap, and a soft non-abrasive cloth, following the grain direction on brushed surfaces. Avoid harsh solvents, metal scrapers, and abrasive pads, and periodically inspect adhesive bonds, studs, fasteners, coatings, and edges for movement, damage, or corrosion.
